Manchester food and drink news this week includes the opening of Cantor’s Food Store in Chorlton (‘as good as anything you can find in London’, according to their Twitter bio), Sugo pasta specialists opening in Ancoats (we recommend booking – this one will be popular), the launch of Manchester Beer Week plus news of an independent bar for Ancoats Cutting Room Square called The Jane Eyre opening in July.
New Chorlton Deli: Cantor’s Food Store now open
One time chef on cult Channel 4 show Big Breakfast, Eddie Cantor is bringing his neighbourhood cafe deli to Chorlton’s Sher Akbar site, famous for ‘curryoke’ – and having absolutely nobody inside, ever. Open all day, the neighbourhood deli/cafe serves a dazzling array of freshly prepared contemporary food, and hopes to become a haven for those who want choice without ‘horrid food, e-numbers and plastic’. We think the fresh salads, baby food and takeout dips in beautiful glass jars are a good start.
Now open: 72-74, Manchester Road, Chorlton, Manchester M21 9P 0161 862 0000 www.cantorsfoodstore.com
Acclaimed pasta restaurant, Sugo is now open in Ancoats
The second restaurant in the Sugo family opens in Ancoats on Tuesday 26 June. Enjoy fresh Pugliese pasta by the Ligorio family in San Vito, Puglia in the heart of Manchester’s ‘little Italy’. Make sure you book, make sure you go; if the menu is to match the Altrincham restaurant, Strozzapreti with fresh brown and white Devonshire Crab, san Marzano tomato, fennel, chilli, parsley & lemon is bang on.
From Tue 26 Jun, 6 Blossom Street, Ancoats, Manchester M4 6BF. Tel: 0161 236 5264, www.sugopastakitchen.co.uk
The Jane Eyre: a new bar for Ancoats’ Cutting Room Square
Ancoats continues to welcome arrivals as an opening date is announced for The Jane Eyre bar on Cutting Room Square in early July. Named after their mother, brothers Joe and Jonny Eyre intend their bar to have a community feel and a great atmosphere. Trained at Spuntino and Gorilla (to name a few), the brothers look forward to getting behind the stick to welcome their guests and serve a ‘clean, simple menu and exceptional wines and beers’
The Jane Eyre, opening July ’18, Cutting Room Square, M4 5DH, www.thejaneeyre.co.uk
