This week’s food and drink news features a free beer festival launch event, an opportunity to forage and a one-off promenade event around Spinningfields…

Indy Man Beer Con launches at Port Street
Ahead of its much-anticipated fourth outing at Victoria Baths next month, Indy Man Beer Con hosts a launch event at Port Street Beer House this Wednesday. With the convention well on the way to completely selling out, it’s an early chance to find out which breweries will be appearing, who will be manning the food stalls and what special events will be happening. With food on the night provided by Chorlton deli Epicerie Ludo and Aficionado’s Jason Boardman DJing, expect a suitably fun and boozy launch event.
Wed 9 Sep, Port Street Beer House, 39-41 Port Street, M1 2EQ, 7pm, FREE entry, www.facebook.com

It’s mushroom foraging season
The variable weather may mark the end of summer – but now, apparently, is the best time of year to get your mushroom foraging act on. Herbalist Jesper Launder is leading several edible fungus events in the area over the coming weeks – starting with this Sunday afternoon’s hunt in Fletcher Moss park and continuing with a forage in Redisher Woods (near Ramsbottom) on Sunday 20 September. Jesper is also teaming up with the Manchester Food & Drink Festival to host a talk and demonstration at Albert Square (4pm, Sun 20 Sep) – plus there’s be a hunt in Chorlton Ees on Saturday 3 October, which is part of Chorlton Food & Drink Festival. Spinningfields hosts The Rotating Menu
Boasting dozens of dining options to suit all tastes and price brackets – from street food at The Kitchens through to Michelin contenders – Spinningfields is hosting a one-off showcase of its talents later this month. The Rotating Menu on Sunday 20 September invites diners to enjoy a five-course meal with each course provided by a different venue – namely Manchester House, Iberica, Australasia, Fazenda and The Alchemist. Only the starting location will be revealed in advance, with the end of each course prompting an announcement of where to head for the next. With only 100 spaces available – 20 per session across its five sessions – and a drink included with each course, it’s an intriguing proposition.
Sun 20 Sep, Spinningfields, Starting at 1pm through to 5pm, £80, www.spinningfieldsonline.com
