The Grosvenor East Theatre at Manchester Metropolitan University is set to host its first show of the academic year as the BA Acting Autumn season kicks off on Thu 10 Oct with pool (no water).
Written by iconic British playwright Mark Ravenhill and directed by John F. Deeney, pool (no water) is an unsettling story that explores the fragility of friendship and the deep caverns of the art world through a visceral performance.
A freak accident surrounding an empty swimming pool thrusts a group of friends into turmoil as they battle with guilt, pain, resentment and envy. Throughout the course of this bizarre production, bubbling jealousy builds into a collective mania, conveyed through hypnotic dialogue and captivating physical performance.
Mark Ravenhill is one of the most widely performed playwrights in modern British theatre. Most famous for his hit play Shopping and F***ing, Ravenhill also co-created the ITV sitcom Vicious, starring Ian McKellen. He has consistently written widely acclaimed productions including Mother Clap’s Molly House, The Boy in the Dress and The Cane and was one of the recipients of the V Europe Prize ‘Theatrical Realities’ awarded to the Royal Court Theatre in 1999.
The production will take place across four shows from Thu 10 Oct – Sat 12 Oct at the Grosvenor East Theatre. The venue has also just launched its own Instagram channel as the venue gears up for a huge year of fantastic theatre.
