Good news for the city’s culture scene – Manchester Museum has received a Capital Kickstart grant of over £1.3 million from the government’s Culture Recovery Fund. The museum, part of the University of Manchester, intends to use the grant to push forward with its hello future transformation project. The project combines a two-storey extension with redevelopment of existing areas in the museum, creating a new Exhibition Hall, a new South Asia Gallery, and improved visitor facilities, among other additions and improvements.

Covid-19 created something of a practical and financial challenge to the ambitious project, but thanks to the Capital Kickstart grant, hello future remains on track to help establish Manchester Museum the most inclusive, imaginative and caring museum in the UK. If all goes to plan, we can expect the newly developed museum to be unveiled in August 2022 – we’ll certainly be following the progress of the project closely and can’t wait to see the final result.
