There are two things that students at MMU know how to do better than anyone else in the city: the first is be creative (or, some would say, be creative in dodging doing any actual work for 3 or so years) and the second get drunk for as little as possible. For one night a year, the Metropolitan Art School combines these two skills with their annual degree show opening night. The current crop of graduates exhibit their work, friends and family look a combination of confused and proud, whilst the rest of us have a night of culture whilst sipping on free wine, beer and anything else they’ve got in stock. This year’s exhibitions are a closely guarded secret, but the class of 2012 had a live bodybuilding show, a booth that allowed you to transform into a seal, a woman cutting off all of her own hair and a lot of more traditional ‘art’, too. For those who can’t make it – or would prefer a more serene look around – the galleries will be open until the 19th, although the free drinks, we suspect, will be long gone.
