Manchester’s vegan events always do really well. Manchester Wire remembers one particular vegan event at Sachas’ Hotel in the city centre which saw crowds queuing around the block to get in. So be sure to head down to Chorlton Irish Club early on Saturday (16 May) to get your full dose of all things meat free and fabulous. The day is set to include vegan speed dating, live music and entertainment, vegan food, cakes and drinks, films, talks and children’s activities. There will be complementary therapies on offer as well as wind-solar-powered rickshaw rides. Highlights of the live bill include local poet and comedian Dominic Berry and  theatrical bicycle performers, The Spokes. A real treat is an appearance from One Man and his Beard. This stage veteran has also performed at protests urging people to save both badgers and libraries: he knows where the vegan spirit is at.

Sat 16 May, Chorlton Irish Club, 17 High Lane, Manchester M21 9DJ. Tel: 0161 881 2898, 11am-5pm, £2, kids FREE, www.veganorganic.net
