As bowling wins its way back into our hearts, here’s Manchester Wire’s round up of the best and newest lanes Manchester has to offer.
All Star Lanes
Open for nearly a month now, All Star has brought glamour to the lanes. With a retro Americana theme, the Great Northern development makes use of eight lanes and a private room, plus authentic American restaurant and bars. Best for 1950s nostalgia and cocktails. The private room is based on Elvis’s bowling cave, while two semi-private lanes to the right of the main set are designed to echo the one which President Richard Nixon had fitted in the basement of the White House.
All Star Lanes, Great Northern Warehouse, 235 Deansgate, M3 4EN, Tel: 0161 871 3600, various opening times, www.allstarlanes.co.uk
Following Black Dog’s most recent opening on New Wakefield Street, this new venue from the same team offers cool, adult-orientated bowling fun in the city centre. The ball return machine is even shaped like a little black dog, and returns the balls through its rear end. Promising to further the brand’s New York-style experience, the five-lane alley will be serving cocktails, pizzas, burgers and hot dogs throughout the night. Best for Big Apple vibes.
From Tue 2 Apr, Black Dog Ballroom, Whitworth Street West, M1 5WY. Tel: 0161 228 2888, midday – 2am daily, www.blackdogballroom.co.uk
Tenpin Parrs Wood
If you’re seeking the classic bowling experience, Parrs Wood is the place to look. Located in Didsbury, the complex comprises an impressive 26 lanes and arcades as well as a ‘Cosmic Bowling’ UV experience in the evenings, featuring neon lanes and a classic disco soundtrack. Best for families.
