Visiting Manchester on a short tour across Europe, Chicago-born musician and composer Marquis Hill Blacktet is frequently dubbed one of the Windy City’s most thrilling young trumpeters. In a short space of time, the musician has cut out a noticeable career in today’s scene of adventurous, budding jazz artists, possessing a melodic, soul-drenched sound that embraces hip hop, R&B and spoken word. Winner of the 2014 Thelonious Monk International Trumpet Competition, the 31-year old Marquis Hill is already eight records-deep into his career as as a band leader, with most recent release ‘Modern Flows Vol. 2’ only adding to his credentials. Don’t miss the chance to catch his sleek harmonious passages and masterful improvisations on Swan Street this month. Support comes from budding local rock-jazz quartet Artephis.
