Any self respecting foodie will be hooked to every episode of Masterchef, willing on the various contestants and salivating at the fine food that seems so close. Anyhow. It seems that the team at Rivals Bar and Restaurant at the Royal Exchange are fans too; joint owner Jamie Langrish has invited Stockport-based Masterchef finalist David Crichton (pictured with The Rivals head chef Anna Fysh) to the Rivals for one night only where he will serve a unique six-course tasting menu inspired by the dishes that led him to secure a coveted place in the recent final of the BBC show. The Rivals, which opened in September 2017, has already built up a reputation as purveyors of fine British food and won over our writer, Ruth Allan, when she visited in April (read her review here). So the bar is set pretty high for Crichton’s appearance in the kitchens. The menu will be complemented by a wine flight created by Xana Franco, and the historic, former cotton exchange and theatre within which The Rivals is homed. Not to be missed.
