Known as one half of prolific production and remix duo Masters at Work, Dope (aka Kenny Gonzalez) started his career behind the decks back in the mid 80s, organising block parties in his home neighbourhood of Brooklyn before venturing forth alongside Little Louie Vega to oversee the now-legendary MAW parties. Over the decades he’s also made waves in his own right, taking us through the 90s and out the other end, intact with an eclectic blend of sounds borrowed from house, disco, funk and breaks that together create undeniable dancefloor tunes – you’ll no doubt know his 1995 track The Bomb (you will, even if you don’t know what the hell the words are). This December he makes his way to Gorilla for one of just three UK shows, helping us kick off party season with a feel-good dose of nostalgic house and disco that will also give you a rare chance to see a true master at work.
