Have we reached peak Peake? She is famous for her work on screen and stage, but Maxine is trying to conquer a new medium: music. She will be DJing at a very special event next month at The Peer Hat, a new(ish) bar and basement music venue in the NQ. A keen record collector, Maxine has hit the decks in the past, and she drew from an eclectic collection of electronica, punk, new wave, reggae, and Northern soul at Electrik’s one deck session in Jan. She is also an activist, and this event is hosted by Greater Manchester chapter of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. All proceeds will go to CND’s campaigning fund for this, the organisation’s 60th year. Also appearing on the night will be a duo of acclaimed, if much less famous, DJs. Jon Bevan is a resident at nearby Soup Kitchen, where he performs on weekend evenings; and Glen Cutwerk, who performs at Heads Up and Push:Music.
