As part of Bafta’s Preview programme, Cornerhouse will host a one-off special screening of Metro Manila next week, followed by a Q&A with the film’s director Sean Ellis and lead actor Jake Macapagal. Metro Manila follows Oscar Ramirez (Macapagal) and his family as they move from the poverty-stricken rice fields of the northern Philippine mountains to the capital city of Manila. The big city isn’t all it seems as Oscar and his family fall foul of inhabitants using manipulative ways in their day-to-day lives. Written and directed by Ellis, who was previously nominated for an Academy Award, Metro Manila won the Audience Award for World Cinema at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released across the UK on Friday 20 September.
