American film director, actress, artist and best-selling author Miranda July will be coming to Cornerhouse this February to talk about her debut novel, The First Bad Man. In celebration of this anticipated release, this talk will dissect some of the powerful themes that run through the book: humour, sex, vulnerability and fierce maternal love. This book sits on top of a very successful career for July so far: her first feature film, Me and You and Everyone We Know, received both a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival and the Caméra d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Her collection of stories, No One Belongs Here More Than You, won the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award and has been published in 20 countries. With this debut novel, July has the potential to firmly establish herself as an important literary voice in 2015.
