Manchester’s Modernist Society celebrate the launch of the 29th issue of The Modernist magazine with a film screening. To celebrate the release of ‘The Modernist 29 INVENTORY’ the Society are screening documentary Brasilia – Life After Design. Having previously sold out at HOME cinema, this is another chance to catch Brasilia, which follows the lives of the inhabitants of Brasilia and explores life in a supposed Modernist utopia, and its contrast from life in other cities. The legacy of the city’s urban plan stings the characters on screen – inhabitants striving for meaningful connections in a city divided by it’s design. Brasilia acts as a backdrop to the isolation, changing values, and the dynamic power and politics of today’s Brazil. The film showcases the beauty of a city rarely seen by the international audience and considers – what is it like to live in someone else’s idea? For more arts and culture in Manchester, click here.
