Moon Duo’s third full-length record, Shadow of the Sun, might have been written at a time when the band were experiencing an uneasy rest period, but this time of reflection was key in producing a record that is brimming with drone-heavy psychedelic riffs. The inclusion of ‘duo’ in their name is misleading – drummer John Jeffrey joined Sanae Yamada (keyboardist) and Ripley Johnson (guitarist, also of Wooden Shjips) back in 2013, making them a trio – but we can forgive them, because their new sound is both distinctly Moon Duo but also arguably their most danceable to date. Their tracks have slightly morose undertones, but by all reckoning, invite the listener into a warm cosmic embrace.
