Deansgate’s gourmet street food market Beat Street has just expanded – giving the city centre even more choice when it comes to food, fire pits and party vibes. With bumped up indoor and covered areas – now including six bars – it’s the largest permanent venue of its kind in the city centre. Emerging from the success of last year’s Friday Food Fight, expect a tasteful selection of street food, craft beers, cocktails and tunes on an actual street inside the Great Northern. Enter via the staircase opposite Beetham Tower, or directly off Deansgate, and be prepared to make some difficult choices when it comes to food. From gourmet burgers to Chaat Cart’s fresh India creations and Freddie and Ava’s wood-fired pizza, all traders and hand-selected and serve the best in Manchester’s famous street food. Booze (and non-alcoholic beverages) is now available from Bunny Jackson’s Juke Joint complete with American pool, country karaoke and a chicken wire live music stage for live acts. The Captain’s Retreat, meanwhile, is a rum-lovers paradise with fire pits and palm trees. Beat Street is the obvious place to go before or after a night out at Albert Hall or the AMC Cinema. The surrounding area – lets call it SoDo (south Deansgate) – takes in Albert’s Schloss, Home Sweet, Home, Almost Famous and All Star Lanes.
