Taking place throughout all of next month is Scalarama, a nationwide event with one simple aim: to fill the land with cinemas. Loads of local film clubs and societies are joining in the fun by hosting screenings at venues throughout the city. The event kicks off formally at Soup Kitchen, with a night of movie scores and trailers for the upcoming films. During the festival proper, down in Didsbury, you can brave ‘The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue’, as part of Grimm Up North’s zombie all-nighter. If that doesn’t satiate your taste for blood, then there’s also a ‘gore galore’ double-bill at Hold Fast Bar. For something less frightening, head to Gorilla for a charity celebration of Robin Williams, featuring many of his best loved movies. It’s not just about Western cinema: a brand new restoration of ‘Dragon Inn’, one of East Asia’s most influential martial arts films, will be shown at Whitworth Art Gallery.
