Cabaret-cum-musical A Super Happy Story (About Feeling Super Sad) has been raking in the five stars at the Fringe and beyond for dealing with depression in a “joyful, buoyant, gleeful, slightly silly, sugar coated, unrelenting and completely super happy” way, getting out in song and prose how it’s OK not to be OK. Think the most uplifting show about being depressed ever, and you’re in the right area. Meet Sally, an apparently happy person who doesn’t let little things get her down and almost never cries – except she does. In private. Written by Olivier Award-winner Jon Brittain with music by Matthew Floyd Jones, it is co-produced by Silent Uproar and Hull UK City of Culture, and is at The Lowry as part of Musical Rewrites, the venue’s bitesize festival of new musical theatre. As a special festival treat, it’s being teamed up on Saturday night with another show, Middle Child play One Life Stand, for a double-bill special. Written by Eve Nicol with music by James Frewer and Honeyblood, One Life Stand is a late-night search for real-life intimacy across a city obsessed with sex and screens, exposing the loneliness of modern relationships despite excitement being just a swipe away. When Kat wonders if her long-term lover is really her lifelong dream, she soon finds out that short term equals short changed. It’s Pay What You Decide for A Super Happy Story on Wednesday, £12 on Thursday and Friday, and then, on Saturday night, it’s £15 for the double bill. If you’d like to win two tickets to the double bill on Saturday 20 October, simply fill in the form below. Anyone entering the competition will automatically be subscribed to our mailing list – but we don’t share your information with anyone else and you can subscribe at any time. Competition closes on Thursday 18 October at midnight. The winner will be announced on Friday 19 October.
