When not running late-night raves, Victoria Warehouse in Trafford is something of a cultural hub, hosting film premieres – and now theatre. The National Youth Music Theatre takes over the warehouse later this month for a run of West Side Story, specially commissioned for the giant space. A cast of 40 and an orchestra of 35, all aged 11 to 23, will perform the musical under the direction of Nikolai Foster. Described as ‘Romeo and Juliet transported to 1950s New York City’, West Side Story is the tale of two idealistic young lovers who find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. With six performances, including two matinees, it’s your chance to see the warehouse in a totally different light.

Wed 21 – Sat 24 Aug, Victoria Warehouse, Trafford Road, M17 1AB, 7.30pm (Fri & Sat 2.30pm matinees), £20 (£18 conc), www.victoriawarehouse.com
