I Must First Apologise… is the forthcoming exhibition at Manchester’s new cultural hub, HOME. The artistic concept of Beirut-based artists Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, the show will explore the history of the online spam and scamming craze through film, sculpture, photography and installation. Constructing an exhibition on the basis of virtual ideologies and internet junk, Hadjithomas and Joreige will pose the question: how do we develop intimacy and proximity with individuals whom we have never met? And, how are systems of belief valued? Working collaboratively for the past 15 years, Hadjithomas and Joreige present this subject as both a scary insight into our contemporary online world, and a fascinating commentary on the paradoxical relationship between the victim and the scammer. It is co-produced by HOME, Nice’s Villa Arson and MIT Lit Visual Arts Centre in Cambridge, USA.
