The designers behind the Manchester Day parade have launched a million-pound arts centre in Salford. Cobden Works is the new home for award-winning outdoor arts company Walk the Plank. The Cobden Street venue contains training space, hot desks for local creatives, and room for their theatre-makers to build sets. The company, which turns 25 this year, has also had a hand in the Albert Square Diwali celebrations and Manchester Pride. Walk The Plank used to produce theatre from an old Norwegian boat (pictured), but since the sale of their vessel have made do with scattered spaces in Ramsbottom, Rainford and a shopping street in Salford. Cobden Works took nine months to build, and funding came from, among others, the Arts Council and Natwest. Workshops and masterclasses begin this week.
