Like all great festivals, Manchester Pride has a fringe programme that proves that left-field events can be just as colourful as the fluoro-headliners. One such series, the Chamber Music Concerts, places classical music at the heart of Pride, with a five-days of recitals featuring some of the most vibrant local and national talent at the wonderful, but unsung, Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall in the heart of the University of Manchester campus. Highlights include a world premier of Pride’s Composer-in-Association Mark Yeats new piece, baritone Roderick Williams, the excellent Heath Quartet (pictured) and acclaimed young pianist Daniel Browell. Thursday and Friday will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 – and at £5 a ticket, these performances are an absolute bargain.

Until Fri 24 Aug, Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall, Bridgeford Street, M13 9PL Tel: 0161 275 8951, times vary, £5, www.manchesterpride.com & www.quaytickets.com
