The Christmas Markets are bigger than ever this year and, in addition to all the usual stalls, there is an ice rink in Cathedral Gardens. The rink opens on Friday 4 November – the same day as the city’s big Christmas Lights switch-on. The Gardens can be somewhat overlooked at Market time, but they have a lot to offer, especially for families. With more open space than other sites, the festivities are designed with kids in mind. Along with the ice rink, there is a traditional funfair with a Ferris wheel, carousel, Helter Skelter and tea cup ride. Food and drink on offer includes all your favourites: waffles, bratwurst and mulled wine for the grown-ups – however drinking and skating is not recommended. Booking is essential: visit the website below to select your 45-minute slot.
