Manchester’s most daring foodies Solita will bring a new Mexican bar and restaurant to the Northern Quarter. El Taquero is the first traditional Mexican taqueria to come to the city and will offer freshly-made tacos and quesadillas using a tortilla press brought over from Mexico City. Expect carne asada, smoked chicken, housemade chorizo, shrimp and numerous veggie options plus a few weekly twists, all matched with 100% corn tortillas. With decor inspired by the owners’ travels across Mexico and the southern US states – including a spectacular neon cactus – El Taquero will be a colourful place for lunch, an after-work pit stop or a full dining experience. There’s also a full Tequila cocktail and Mexican beer menu. You’ll find them on the site of the old Montpellier’s and The Bouncing Czech, right in the heart of Manchester’s buzzing Northern Quarter. The restaurant is due for launch at the start of August with a VIP launch party and, it is hoped, a mariachi band.

From Aug, El Taquero, 42 Back Turner Street, Manchester M4 1FR. Tel: 0161 832 3146, 12pm-late, www.eltaquero.co.uk
