Cult pop designer Malcolm Garrett will reveal a lifetime of collected curios in a new Design Manchester exhibition. ‘Collecting Malcolm Garrett – Snapshots from the World of Tomorrow’ is no ordinary collection – Garrett’s objects include 1939 New York World’s Fair ephemera, Vivienne Westwood clothing, and bundles of vintage books and toys. The Manchester Polytechnic graduate co-founded Design Manchester, and his memorable cover art for the Buzzcocks helped shape pop trends in the 1970s – a trend that’s evident here. The archive on display at Man Met Special Collections also shows his fascination with future fashions and fantasy, with headings such as ‘The World of Tomorrow’ and ‘Adventures in the 21st Century’. Make a date for Wednesday 18 October at 2pm when Garrett himself will give a free personal tour of the exhibition, which can be found at MMU’s All Saints Library off Oxford Road.
