In the Frame: Dance on Film brings together a collection of images, both still and moving, created by visual artists, choreographers and dance companies across the world. The exhibition takes the art form from the stage to the new environment of the gallery. The exhilarating New Beginnings sees two dancers from the New York City Ballet performing a segment of British choreographer Christopher Wheldon’s After The Rain at sunrise on the 57th floor terrace of Four World Trade Center. The internationally acclaimed All This Can Happen by choreographer Siobhan Davies and filmmaker David Hinton (below) appears as part of its worldwide tour. The film, created entirely from early archive photographs and footage from the earliest days of cinema, treads the path of the protagonist from the short story The Walk by writer Robert Walser with a soundtrack by sound designer and artist Chu-Li Shewring. The Lowry have been encouraging people to tweet and Instagram photos of themselves dancing in unusual locations, a selection of which will be used in the exhibition.
