Further details of plans to redevelop Manchester Arena have been revealed this week by its operator ASM Global. The redevelopment would see improvements made both to the interior and the exterior of the venue, aiming to increase capacity and improve sustainability along with offering new VIP experiences. The venue is approaching its 25th anniversary this summer, and ASM Global are calling for support of its redevelopment from the local community as concerns arise over plans for a second arena space proposed just outside of town. 25th anniversary celebrations will take place on Friday 17 July at 8pm, with a special virtual gig raising money for community causes and featuring performances from Lionel Richie, Alice Cooper, and The Hoosiers, along with many others. Many of those involved in the arena have emphasised the importance of continuing investment in the city centre and its arts and culture identity and the centrality of the Manchester Arena to the continuing success of the city’s hospitality and entertainment sector.
