Stockport’s magazine and print specialists Rare Mags have teased details of an expansion into a brand new space, which Manchester Wire has exclusively earned will officially open its doors on Friday 28 August. While exact details of their new venue are still under wraps (social media shows the creative team behind the shop hard at work kitting out a larger space), it’s believed that the new Rare Mags won’t be too far away from their original store, located just a few doors down on Lower Hillgate in Stockport.
Created by Holly Carter and Martin Wilson, Rare Mags debuted in 2018 as a showcase for beautifully created, independent print publications and books – and community spirit. Their expansion into a new outlet promises to deliver more of the same – this time with a larger selection of books, international magazines, stationery, a small espresso bar and an improved kid’s books section. Owners Carter and Wilson tell us that their new space will eventually play host to a new gallery space with a changing array of shows and events curated across the coming months.
“We’re very excited about the new shop, and the town in the general,” the Rare Mags team tell us. “There’s a lot of positive stuff happening, lots of new stuff, and we’re very thankful to the council for their part in the regeneration.” You can visit Rare Mags’ original shop on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, which is currently operating with social distancing guidelines in place to ensure customer safety. Follow the Rare Mags team on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for up-to-date news.
