Never ones to go down the traditional route, Northern Quarter fancy good emporium and veggie-friendly café Oklahoma presents a different take on the nativity. Taking influence from the Mexicana art of the Nicho box, a form of diorama often taking on religious themes with lots of flare, kitsch and a heck of a lot of glitter. A collaboration between artists Bren O’Callaghan, Natalie Dawson, Elle Brotherhood and Bryony Jackson, Nicho Nativity will transform Oklahoma’s new basement exhibition space into a Christmas grotto for grown-ups and kids alike. Though probably best to keep the kids away from the opening night (Fri 6 Dec, 6pm – 9pm), which sees a free glass of ‘Santa Sangria’ offered to guests as well as complimentary Mexican snacks. There will also be prizes for the best fancy dress on the night with extra points given to those with the best ‘Kahlo-brow’. Fear not if you can’t make the opening night: the exhibition will be up for the month and will fill you with Latino Christmas vibes. Feliz Navidad!
