Two of the brightest short-story writers of recent years are heading to Blackwell’s for a night in March to celebrate the launch of their two books. Nicole Flattery has been showered with praise from writers such as Sally Rooney and Jon McGregor, and won the White Review’s Short Story Prize in 2017. Her debut short story collection, ‘Show Them A Good Time’ is set for release on Bloomsbury and seems set to show the truth to Elle’s comment that ‘Irish women writers are on fire and Nicole Flattery is yet a further brilliant example’ as well as The Irish Time’s view that she could be the ‘Irish Miranda July’. Set to share the evening is ‘swaggering monster of fiction’, Daisy Johnson, who will be reading from her debut novel, ‘Everything Under’, nominated for the Man Booker Prize as well as Blackwell’s Book of the Year last year. Her debut short story collection, ‘Fen’ was one of the most critically acclaimed collections of recent years, and she has previously won the Edge Hill Prize, and the A. M. Heath Prize amongst many others. Every ticket holder will be able to receive money off both books, as well as a free glass of wine.
