Compiling a successful movie soundtrack is an art form. For every 80s power ballad, or 90s pop-smash, there’s a music composer scurrying away in the background contracting these artists to accompany their hit movie. The likes of legendary composers Alan Silvestri (responsibly for the soundtracks of Back To The Future, The Bodyguard, and Forrest Gump), Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, Gladiator, Dark Knight Rises) and Keith Forsey (The Breakfast Club, Ghostbusters, Beverley Hills Cop) should never be underestimated. These composers are responsible for underpinning key moments of films with a slice of musical paradise. They give credence to characters, and embellish key moments in the film. Celebrating the art of film soundtracks, with their tongue planted firmly in cheek, is Night Fever – the club night hosting a ‘Bank Holiday Blockbuster’ at the Deaf Institute this Friday. To accompany these songs the night will project clips from classic movies, with free popcorn and cheap movie-themed cocktails also available. The Night Fever team are joined by Duncan Wallis, lead singer of Manchester alt-poppers Dutch Uncles, with Howling Rhythm providing motown, Northern Soul and rare 60s cuts in the bar. For a taster of what’s to come, take a listen to the Night Fever Spotify playlist.
