It’s apt that Californian hipster-popster Nite Jewel is setting her tour bus down at the Soup Kitchen basement. A couple of years ago, both were both pretty lo-fi and grubby, now they’re more polished, even more excellent versions of themselves if you like. As a result, this gig is a highlight of subterranean Manchester’s summer programming. Ramona Gonzalez (real name) is touring her latest album, One Second of Love; a romantic synth melee that is at once saccharine as it is achingly cool. Expect a slow-motion cabaret type affair, big on dreamy drum machines topped with the beautiful constant of Gonzalez’ softening vocals.
Sun 15 Jul, Soup Kitchen, 31-33 Spear Street, Northern Quarter, M1 1D. Tel: 0161 236 5100, 7.30pm, £7.50, www.skiddle.com
