To round off a special season celebrating Northern Chamber Orchestra’s 50th anniversary, the ensemble’s president and internationally renowned cellist Raphael Wallfisch will be playing as part of two finale concerts: the first as part of the NCO’s regular programme in Macclesfield and the second at Stoller Hall, where it is Orchestra in Association. One of the most recorded classical artists in the world and with appearances across the globe, this is a great chance to catch Raphael Wallfisch on fine form and will be playing Elgar’s contemplative and elegiac Cello Concerto, made famous by Jacqueline du Pré under the baton of conductor Sir John Barbirolli in the 1960s. This piece is sandwiched between two of the most well-known pieces in the classical repertoire – the overture to Mozart’s Magic Flute and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, with those recognisable opening four notes. A suitable send-off for 50 years. As a Manchester Wire reader you can tickets for just £10 by entering the discount code ‘Wallfisch2018’ when prompted at this link.
