Following the hype surrounding The Great British Bake Off and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee last year, the nation’s love affair with baking appears to be hotter than ever, with a surge of amateurs reaching for their aprons and foraging through the abandoned corners of their kitchens. The Northern Quarter Baking Club is offering the chance to show off these new-found baking skills as it continues its monthly event – this time with a cheesecake theme. The basic idea: bakers of all ages and abilities get together, armed with a home-made cheesecake of their choice, for an evening of cake tasting and recipe sharing, a few beers and dessert-based chat. Think a Calendar Girls-style village fête, but with less competitiveness, more fun and a cool Northern Quarter edge. Book now – only a few tickets remain.
