The marvelously named MDMA (Manchester District Music Archive) launches Bill Sykes’ book about Roger Eagle (pictured), a pivotal but under-appreciated figure in the North-West’s musical history, at one of The Twisted Wheel’s original homes on Tuesday. ‘Sit Down! Listen To This! The Roger Eagle Story’ charts one scenester’s journey from the inception of Northern Soul in the mid-1960s to the International 1 at the height of Madchester. Author Bill Sykes will be present to talk about his book on Eagle and his influence on the region’s club and live music cultures. The DJ and promoter, who died in 1999, was described by the Guardian as ‘the energy and enthusiasm behind Northern Soul’. Speakers include CP Lee, Elliot Rashman and Roger Fairhurst. Les Hare (Kingbee Records) will be the evening’s guest DJ.
