The Not Quite Light Festival comes to Salford this month, a four-day long event featuring over 20 attractions, including art, music, guided tours, and debate inspired by organiser Simon Buckley’s art project which aims to capture the city before sunrise. Standout events include ‘Transition’, which takes place at Sacred Trinity Church on Friday. This will have poetry readings and storytelling from the actor and activist Julie Hesmondhalgh. There will also be live performances from classical musicians playing works by Beethoven and Britten on the theme of dawn and dusk. An event the following night, at St. Phillips Church features more poetry, specially-commissioned music, a live band, and light installations. And in the crypt, the cult horror actor Lauren Ashley Carter will read ghost stories. Closing the festival is an immersive art performance to help people experience the sunset and twilight in a meditative and collective way.
