The city centre has just added yet another upmarket eatery to its ranks: Urban Cookhouse on Princess Street. This, the first establishment from Salford-based newcomers Violet Hospitality, is situation in a former shipping warehouse, which has been given a huge makeover and converted into a restaurant, bar and lounge. The owners are aiming for downtown New York-style casual dining, but with a menu of fusion dishes from around the world. Specialities include Jamaican jerk loin of pork and Southern style buttermilk-fried whiskey chicken. The lounge provides a relaxed area to enjoy classic and signature cocktails. Open seven days a week from noon until late, Urban Cookhouse will offer business lunches, after work drinks and leisurely dinners. It opened last week (on the rather risky day of Friday the 13th) and will have its official launch party later this month.

Urban Cookhouse, 54 Princess Street, M1 6HS, 12pm – 10pm daily, www.urbancookhouse.co.uk
