If you’ve walked down Peter Street recently, you may have noticed a scaffolding-covered building just down from the Albert Hall. This was formerly Chicago Rock Café – but in a marked step up in quality is now Sakana, a new pan-Asian restaurant. Sakana specialises in Eastern classics, high-class street food and modern molecular gastronomy. The ground floor restaurant is now open, and boasts an open kitchen with two teppanyaki sections, a sushi counter and a robata grill. There is also a contemporary bar with floor-to-ceiling wine wall. Near this end of this month, the scaffolding will (hopefully) come off and Sakana will open its first-floor area too. This will be a fine dining restaurant with an exclusive bar featuring vintage wines. Sakana is a £1 million venture from Stewart Yip, the owner of Chinatown’s Red Chilli, and‘Ocean Treasure in the Great Northern.
