The Great Northern Playhouse, a brand new theatre company, has just launched on Deansgate. The pop-up theatre will run until December in a shop unit in the Great Northern Warehouse – already home to the AMC cinema, Almost Famous and All Star Lanes. The company’s next event, in early October, will be a two-day showcase that aims to discover new talent and offer visitors the chance to give feedback. One new play will be picked up for production, based on votes by the audience. In the weeks that follow there is a diverse programme of shows, including Watching Goldfish Suffocate, a one-person play that tells the true story of a man suffering from manic depression. In a change of tone, there is also Sherlock Holmes: A Working Hypothesis on the horizon. This contemporary take on Conan Doyle’s works is set to feature a lot of audience participation. See the Playhouse’s website below for full listings.
