Manchester’s more eagle-eyed residents may have noticed that gig promoters Now Wave recently announced their plans to open a new standalone live venue via their Twitter feed. It’s not due to open until the end of 2018, and Now Wave themselves are understandably reluctant to divulge too much too soon. But here’s what we know so far. The new space is located on Charles Street, just off Oxford Road and across from FAC251 and down from the Lass O’Gowrie, in what was once the Capes Dunn art auction house. According to the contractors working on the site, the plan is to have three floors open, including a gig venue, a bar and a nightclub area. Also in the works is an open roof terrace for some fresh-air socialising in the summer months. The license pinned to the shutters suggests a 4.30am curfew – so make of that what you will. Now Wave are among Manchester’s leading live promoters, responsible for bringing in names like Kelela, Four Tet, King Krule and the xx. And with a fully-fledged venue in the works, their contribution to the city’s gig circuit is only going to continue to grow. For our weekly gig listings, click here.
