Off The Hook, City Life’s ‘Best Gay Night’, shares the spotlight with three other alternative gay/queer parties for a Saturday night bank holiday extravaganza. With the massive influx of gay visitors to the city for the annual Pride festival, the onus is on the city’s promoters to prove the fun doesn’t stop at the Canal Street barricades. A loose affiliation of like-minded promoters, under the banner ‘Alt.Q.Manchester’, have even put together a brochure to keep visitors and residents alike clued up to the array of non-Village parties on offer. RnB party kids OTH team up with the pioneering Claude Cunningham from Black Angel, esoteric dancefloor fillers Chew Disco and future favourites Akbar.Umm, who promise a unique platter of bhangra, Bollywood and salsa, with edible treats to match the spicy sounds. Six hours for only £6 – and the entry fee includes a donation to the UK Lesbian and Gay Immigration Group (UKLGIG), a charity promoting equality and dignity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people seeking asylum in the UK.
