Oldham Town Hall’s renowned and beautifully tiled Egyptian Rooms are looking to be converted into a brand new dining experience in the style of Altrincham Market and Stockport’s Produce Hall. These historic rooms, which used to house the Borough Treasurer’s Rates Hall, are due to be fitted with six food and drink concessions – including a coffee shop, pizzeria and a bar – centred around a communal dining area with a large covered terrace also debuting on Parliament Square. When complete, this transformed dining experience will seat around 200 people, both inside and out. This once derelict grade II-listed building is already home to a seven-screen Odeon cinema, Nandos and Molino Lounge, following a £37m redevelopment. The council is also in discussions with potential operators to take over the space if planning permission is granted, through their bid to the Government’s Future High Street Fund. If approved, the work will begin this year on the Egyptian Rooms, with a proposed opening in summer 2021.
