Don your armbands for the first public swim event at Victoria Baths for 24 years. Tickets for this one-off fundraiser go on sale at noon on Wednesday 12 April. The Grade II* listed building has been home to zine fairs, pop-up cinemas and, recently, the Manchester Gin Festival. Although this special heritage swim returns the venue to its original use, this isn’t a usual swim session. There are no showers or lockers, but you will get to use the vintage horsebox-style changing stalls. There are no radiators to warm you up either, so bring plenty of stuff to wrap up in, and make the most of the Vimto and Bovril on sale in the Tea Room. Victoria Baths installed Britain’s first public jacuzzi in the 1950s – the venue’s first public swimming session of the 21st century may well be as memorable. The ticket gets you access to Saturday’s open day, featuring guided tours throughout the afternoon. Swimmers need to be the minimum age of eight.
