Enjoy Shakespeare’s best loved romantic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the open air splendour of Heaton Hall & Park in July. Join Feelgood Theatre as the mischievous Puck beckons the audience into the woods for the famous tale of magical make-believe and mistaken identity. The open-air family-friendly show will bring history to life as, while the cast sings and dances around the hollows of Heaton Park, the Hall’s Victorian-era residents mysteriously appear to give the plot helping hand. And if that course isn’t running smoothly enough, the journey will end inside the stunning neoclassical Heaton Hall for three weddings and a rustic play. There’s a modern twist too – the soundtrack will span the generations, with everything from Monteverdi to Handel to local favourites Oasis. Feelgood Theatre, now entering its 24th year, last bought the bard to Heaton Park with Macbeth in 2009. That performance was enlivened with African drumbeats and rated five stars by WhatsOnStage, while other shows by these adventurous actors have included a cappella singing, abseiling and fire sculpting. Tickets for A Midsummer Night’s Dream are on sale online or can be bought with cash from the Heaton Farm Centre café. Bring clothing suitable for a British July – and do bring a picnic.
Thu 20 Jul – Sun 6 Aug (excl Jul 23, 24, 31), Heaton Park, Middleton Road, Higher Blackley, Manchester, M25 2SW. £12-£16 (family ticket £50), www.feelgoodtheatre.co.uk
