There’s a double-shot of good news for coffee and craft beer fans: Takk is to open two new hangouts on Oxford Road. The Iceland-inspired coffee house will launch an espresso bar and a Scandi-style nano-brewery called ÖL – both at Hatch, part of Oxford Road’s new Circle Square development. The two-floor Takk espresso bar takes its design cue from Danish home living, and boasts a multi-roaster menu full of beans, including its own house espresso, North Projekt. The coffee offer will be headed by Takk’s Ricardo Gandara, one of the brains behind the Manchester Coffee Festival. Meanwhile, ÖL – a Nordic word for ‘ale’ – will have a keg bar of site-brewed beers, alongside tipples from the best pint-peddlers in Manchester and beyond. ÖL is led by Dave Foulger, Takk’s chief foodie and the man behind artisan brewery Byrne The Cake. Hatch is part of the huge Circle Square retail and leisure development near the old BBC site. It’s run by the team behind Afflecks and will bring a variety of pop-up businesses to the vacant space under the Mancunian Way. Takk and ÖL are their first tenants: both are scheduled to open in December.
