The music of friends has to be the most beautiful way of describing the intimacy of chamber music, a small orchestral ensemble performing at eye level. Only this time the chamber will be slightly more unusual as Soup Kitchen refines its music offer for one night with beers, basement and…Beethoven. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment brings The Night Shift to Manchester, with the emphasis on a relaxed and informal setting for Beethoven’s String Quartet No 11, nicknamed ‘Serioso’. The name suggests a sombre tone, but the intensity of the composition is deliberately offset by the tranquillity of the setting and a mixed programme of complementary pieces. The audience is encouraged to drink, mingle, clap and cheer if they feel like it.
