Next Thursday, there is very special evening taking place in the Northern Quarter. It is a PechaKucha (Japanese: ‘chit-chat’) night, meaning it features a series of short presentations. The venue is SpacePortX, the co-working hub on Lever Street, and the speakers are all local creatives, designers and artists. At PechaKucha events, the presenters have 20 slides, and talk about each one for 20 seconds. It’s something of a challenge, as the slides progress automatically. These events have become very popular because they keep things snappy and concise. The result is like a mini-TED conference, but with less self-indulgence. Among the many creatives taking part will be Jane Bowyer, an independent graphic designer and illustrator who curated the recent ‘Women in Print’ exhibition. Also appearing will be Jess Gibbs, from the creative studio OH OK, and John Macaulay – the founder of Art Battle Manchester. The full line-up can be found on the website below.
