Neo-variety organisers Pen:Chant are celebrating International Women’s Day with a proper good knees-up at Gorilla. Starting at 6pm and running into the wee small hours, the special SHE PWR night comes in three parts. First up, a free-entry makers’ market and Q&As with prominent female creatives will be soundtracked by acoustic acts, DJs and the clinking of cocktail glasses. From 8pm, it’s tickets only, with three tiers (Skinted, Undinted and Minted) raising money for Manchester-based charity Women Asylum Seekers Together (WAST). Curated by Pen:Chant and hosted by alt cabaretists Eggs Collective (of hit TV show Get A Round on BBC2’s Performance Live), expect entertainment in the form of spoken word artist Femi Keeling, stand-up comedy with Cam Spence, and live music from Ríognach Connolly and Ellis Davies of Honeyfeet plus SHE Choir, followed by an after-party (11.30pm-1am) with sets by Hattie Pearson and Meat Free DJs. There’s even a raffle. Get in.
Thu 8 Mar, Gorilla, 54-56 Whitworth Street, Manchester, M1 5WW, Tel: 0161 826 2998, 6pm, £8-12, thisisgorilla.com
