Bolton comedy legend Peter Kay has surprised fans by announcing a special show at The Lowry next Monday.

Peter Kay Live in aid of The Lily Foundation unsurprisingly sold out almost instantly and follows a string of ‘secret shows’ in The Lowry’s theatre studio.

The Lily Foundation is the UK’s leading mitochondrial disease charity and the largest charitable funder of mitochondrial research in Europe.

The beloved comedic has been mostly out of the spotlight since the cancellation of his stand-up tour in December 2017 citing “unforeseen family circumstances”.

Speculation has been growing that Kay has been testing out new material ahead of a return to the live circuit in 2023.

The event page for Monday’s show says that all phones will be secured in a lockable pouch upon arrival, and can’t be used during the performance.
