This August, the People’s History Museum is hosting Peterloo – Soldiers on the Rampage, to mark the anniversary of the infamous massacre of 1819, which saw many peaceful protestors from Manchester killed or injured by the king’s cavalrymen. Local folk musicians Geoff Higginbottom, Martin Gittins and Bob Ashworth will be performing songs and reciting prose, which will tell the story of the massacre and the people it effected. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and discuss the tragedy. Despite its somewhat gory subject matter, this is a family friendly event, which is suitable for all ages.
